Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort

In the northwest desert outside Las Vegas are three Pete Dye masterpieces at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Club. The serenity of the land (which is the first multi-course resort built entirely on Native American soil) is one of Paiute's most noticeable assets, with fairways lined with yucca and Joshua trees.

Snow Mountain course was the first opened in 1995. The Sun Mountain followed a year later, and finally the Wolf opened in 2001.

The first two kinder, gentler Snow Mountain and Sun Mountain layouts may have you questioning the accuracy of the name under the design credit. But Dye eschewed from his signature tour-style course in favor of an easier, resort-friendly approach.

"The driving areas on our golf courses are very generous, there's lot of room, but we also have water hazards and the desert coming in to play," General Manager Dick Huff said. "Then there's the well-bunkered small greens that get very firm in our winds. Both courses are good tests from the back tees.

Perhaps making up for the ease of the first two designs at Paiute,the Wolf is a quintessential Dye challenge, and is considered one of the toughest layouts in the entire southwest. The slope from the tournament tees is 149, and 138 from the blacks. The yardage from the black tees is a hardly fathomable 7,604 yards. The 17th and 18th certainly test endurance over everything, each a par 4 playing over 480 yards. Three other sets of tees (7004, 6,483, 5,910) round out the tee selection.
